Generazione mille euro (2009)

Matteo is a mathematician with an impressive résumé, including a doctorate and a master’s degree in scientific computing, who wants a position in the department where he studied. While endlessly waiting for the long-awaited job competition, and receiving no help from his university mentor, who continues to exploit him, he is forced to take a degrading job in the marketing department of a dull company in the industry. He also shares an apartment with his best friend Francesco, who is shallow and childish but good-hearted, and passionate about films and video games. The lives of the two young men are turned upside down by the arrival of Angelica, the attractive new director at Matteo’s company, and their new roommate Beatrice, a precariously employed teacher whose character and morals are the opposite of Angelica’s. Before long, a series of events befalls Matteo: his girlfriend Valentina, a cold and distant doctor, leaves him; he is evicted and at risk of losing his job. He is forced to make drastic decisions to ensure his survival, at the cost of all the sacrifices he made in his studies—but these decisions will allow the relationship he has begun to continue.
