The story
Angustias, a waitress at the newly opened La pequeña Andalucía hotel, struggles to find someone to cover her night shift. The hotel has only three couples staying, leaving her as the sole staff member on duty. One guest is Rodolfo Cisneros, a millionaire playboy she loves, who arrives with his secretary. Angustias discovers Rodolfo intends to seduce her, while the secretary has come hoping to secure his commitment before a notary so she can marry him and benefit from her employer’s fortune. Angustias then does everything she can to keep them from being alone. Elsewhere in the hotel, Carlos and another couple conspire to steal jewels from wealthy widow Lucia.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Angustias (Lina Morgan), a waitress at a hotel called “La pequeña Andalucía,” is frantically looking for a colleague to take her night shift. A certain Rodolfo Cisneros (Alfredo Landa), a millionaire playboy she is in love with, has booked a room. Angustias is in for one surprise after another when she discovers that the newly opened hotel has only three couples staying there, with her as the only staff member on duty. Complications arise when she sees that Rodolfo has not come alone but with his secretary (Haydée Balza). He has brought her there to seduce her, while she agreed to come only to get him to pledge himself to her before a notary. That way, she would marry him and benefit from her boss’s fortune. Angustias learns of the plan by listening in on a phone call, and from then on does everything she can to stop them from being alone together in the room. Meanwhile, Carlos (Máximo Valverde), a handsome gigolo, is spending the weekend there with Lucia (Helga Liné), a wealthy widow. He and the other couple (played by Antonio Ozores and Toco Gómez) are in cahoots to steal the widow’s jewels. Things get even more complicated because of a whole series of organizational blunders: the room meant for the thieves was given to Rodolfo and his secretary because the thieves arrived late for their appointment. It was next door to the widow’s room, and the thieves had planned to swap the jewels for fakes through the service window. Matters are further complicated when Lucia learns of the robbery plan, because among the fake jewels is a duplicate watch that she is still wearing. It all ends with the apparent murder of the widow after she demands that Carlos explain what is going on. Having witnessed this, Angustias locks herself in Rodolfo’s room, waiting for the night to pass so she can alert the Civil Guard and also thwart Rodolfo’s plans to seduce his secretary. Carlos and his group try to kill Angustias, Rodolfo, and his secretary, thinking that the latter two have kept the jewels, when in fact they have thrown them down the drain in their bathroom.
