Full plot (contains spoilers)
Fourteen-year-old Katja lives out her dreams with her boyfriend Johann in the “Green Desert,” a forest near their village. There, they plan the future they want to spend together. But that future is threatened in two ways: first, by the affair between Katja’s mother, Doris, and Johann’s father, Simon, which Katja’s father, Detlef, watches without doing anything. Second, it is becoming increasingly clear that Johann, Katja’s first great love, has leukemia. The young woman must now leave her childhood behind in order to cope with this.
