Full plot (contains spoilers)

Antonio is a penniless waiter with a passion for gambling. Angela is a single secretary consumed by anxiety and panic attacks, recently fired for beating up her new boss. Nino is a divorced former mechanic with no job, who works as a clown at birthday parties but never makes anyone laugh. Carmen is a temp worker devoted solely to shopping and appearances, changing boyfriends every month. Michele is a naive young man and orphan who grew up in a zoo and is about to be fired. The five are brought together by a notary because they are all siblings, children of a father they never knew, who had relationships with their respective mothers in the past; none of them had suspected he existed. Their father has died, and his will names them equal heirs to his substantial estate. To receive it, however, they must take his ashes to the United States and scatter them in a lake in Arizona. They set off by plane, with Nino’s underage son along for the ride, but bad weather forces them to land before reaching their destination. So they have to rent a car, since Angela is terrified at the thought of flying again. Thus begins a road trip across the United States to reach their destination. Antonio and Nino spend all the money at their disposal on prostitutes, not realizing what they are until the very end. Antonio then suggests going to Las Vegas to try their luck gambling. There, he loses everything they have left and even has to pawn their father’s urn to pay his debt to an Italian man he has lost $20,000 to. After retrieving the urn and getting some cash through a ruse, the journey continues. Following further mishaps—including Nino being kidnapped after a thief escapes with the car they rented—they finally manage to scatter the ashes. However, when they return to Italy, they discover that the notary has swindled them, pocketing the nine million euros intended for them. The five siblings then go to Rio de Janeiro, where they suspect the swindler has fled, and get their money back after beating him up.
