Full plot (contains spoilers)

Apart from the final scene, the film follows the familiar Nibelungen saga in its basic plot, seasoning the story with numerous nude and sex scenes. In medieval Worms, the young Siegfried arrives, having recently won new fame as a dragon slayer. The brawny hero, blessed with enormous self-confidence and a habitually cheerful disposition, becomes the darling of the young women in the city and at King Gunther’s court. Gunther decides that only the “best” will do for his sister Kriemhild, and promises Siegfried that he will give him the fair-haired princess as his wife. But first Siegfried explores the local ladies from head to toe, in the hay and in bed. In the course of an extravagant sex orgy, Siegfried takes the virginity of nearly the entire female household staff, as well as a young woman disguised as a page. Afterwards, Gunther sets off with Siegfried for Iceland to woo the legendary Queen Brunhild with the help of Siegfried’s cloak of invisibility. Gunther fails the sexual test on the very first night and is supposed to die. Siegfried then puts on the cloak in the dark and satisfies the queen, while she believes Gunther is with her and is deeply impressed in every way. Deceived in this way, Brunhild agrees to become Gunther’s wife, but is beside herself with rage when Kriemhild’s hints reveal the shameful sexual deception perpetrated by the two men. The tensions at court culminate in Gunther’s grim confidant Hagen von Tronje being ordered to kill Siegfried. But Kriemhild, who leaps at Hagen from behind, saves Siegfried from his spear.
