The story
Paul-André, a lonely and depressed man in his forties, lives in luxury funded by his computer-industry fortune, but finds his life empty. He meets Violette, a working single mother in serious debt who is raising two children alone. After she is caught stealing to feed them and worries that her children may be taken away, Paul-André proposes a bargain: he will clear her debts and pay her the equivalent of a year’s salary if she lets him live with her family for three months. He moves into Violette’s home and meets her children, Lucie and Auguste.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Paul-André is a lonely, depressed man in his forties who lives in cold luxury thanks to the fortune he made in the computer industry. Despite his material comfort, he is miserable because his life is nothing but solitude, under the watchful eye of his chauffeur and butler. He then contacts Violette, a working woman in her forties who is so heavily in debt that she steals to feed her two children, who have different fathers and whom she raises alone. Caught by a security guard whom she knocks unconscious, she is taken to court. After her release, she complains in front of the cameras that they are threatening to take her children away, then launches into an effusive speech about family, saying she could not live without it. Envious, Paul-André offers to pay off her debts and give her the equivalent of a year’s salary in exchange for spending three months living with Violette’s family. He moves in with her, where he meets her two children, Lucie and Auguste.
