Full plot (contains spoilers)
Paris, 2008. Nina, unemployed and with no ties, and her five-year-old son, Enzo, are sleeping on the street. After reading a newspaper article about an organization that helps unemployed people, Nina decides to contact it in the hope of making a fresh start. One night, Nina and Enzo see the Samu social pass nearby. They are immediately taken in and brought to a shelter in Versailles. Nina keeps her goal in mind: finding the organization mentioned in the newspaper. Shortly afterward, in a forest adjoining the grounds of the Palace of Versailles, Nina and Enzo discover a cabin where a solitary man, Damien, lives. Nina spends the night with him, and at dawn she leaves her child behind and disappears. When Damien wakes, he finds Enzo alone. He tries to take him back to the city, but the child returns to the cabin. Over the days and seasons, the man and the child get to know one another, grow accustomed to one another, and form a strong bond, until the day Damien, ill and no longer able to get up, asks Enzo to go to the château for help. When Damien leaves the hospital, he finds the child waiting for him in the street, hoping for something from him. Damien takes him to his own father, with whom he had broken off contact. He introduces Enzo as his son. After finding work on a construction site, Damien eventually registers Enzo with the civil authorities so he can go to school. As time goes by, this life begins to weigh on Damien, and he increasingly longs for the freedom he once had. One morning, he leaves with his backpack and vanishes, leaving Enzo with his parents, who have grown attached to the child. Seven years pass, until one day Damien’s parents receive an emotional letter from Enzo’s mother, who is trying to find her child…
