When a blackmailer targets thirteen-year-old Sara online, she turns to a sympathetic teenager who is not who he claims to be.
The story
Shy thirteen-year-old Sara treats the internet as a meeting place and refuge. There she befriends “Benny,” who seems empathetic and says he is seventeen, unaware that he is Simon Keller, a teacher and father. When another online acquaintance, “Kevin,” blackmails her with a revealing photo, Sara confides in Benny. Keller offers to help if Sara hands her own user account over to the teacher Benny supposedly trusts—Keller himself. Sara arranges to meet the teacher in a park, where he proposes confronting the blackmailer and taking back the photo.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
For shy thirteen-year-old Sara, the internet is a meeting place and a refuge. There she meets “Benny,” who seems very empathetic and claims to be seventeen. She does not know that behind this username, whose profile picture is a white rabbit, is actually Simon Keller, a teacher and father. He is shown masturbating while secretly watching his young female students during physical education class. Sara confides in “Benny” when she is blackmailed with a revealing photo by “Kevin”—the pseudonym of sixteen-year-old Julian Kiefer, another online acquaintance. Keller, alias Benny, offers for Sara to hand over her own user account to Keller, the teacher Benny supposedly trusts, so that he can help her. She arranges to meet the teacher in a park, where he suggests confronting the blackmailer at a meeting and taking the photo from him. Keller arrives at the meeting place after the two teenagers and, from hiding, witnesses a sexual assault. But he does not help Sara; instead, he watches until “Kevin” leaves. Only then does he go to the girl to comfort her and send her home in a taxi. He then follows the boy to a café and uses force to make him hand over his mobile phone, which also contains a video recording of the sexualized assault. The café is under surveillance by LKA special investigator Miki Witt, who intervenes immediately, seizes the phone, and takes both of them to the station. By this point, however, Julian has already uploaded the video to the internet, where it quickly spreads among Sara’s classmates. With support from Sara’s statements, Keller manages to convince the investigative team that he had contacted the child under a pretext to protect her from assaults like this one, citing his role as a media educator. Only Witt does not believe him. He continues investigating on his own, connects the case to an earlier murder of a child, and puts Keller under intense pressure. Keller lures the investigator to his secret place, a horse farm, where Sara has taken refuge. There, he beats the police officer to death. The final shots show Keller being comforted by Sara in his imagination, followed by a stylized chat room in which a dog avatar with a bloody muzzle kneels over a motionless, bloodied rabbit avatar.
