When a group of holiday winners sets off for the Schlei, Johanna suspects their promised vacation may be a sales trip in disguise.

The story

Walter wins a trip to the Schlei and invites his brother-in-law Heinz along. Another winner, Josefine, brings her niece Johanna, hoping to take her mind off her boyfriend Max, who keeps standing her up. Photos of Max with crime novelist Mareike Wolf deepen Johanna’s suspicions, though Max knows nothing about them. As the group sets off, Johanna doubts the trip’s legitimacy and suspects it is a sales excursion disguised as a vacation. On arrival, the guests find they are staying in an old inn instead of the promised exclusive hotel, while tour guide Lisa Wagner promotes land for sale by the Schlei.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Walter is just installing a new radio in his car when the mail carrier brings him a letter congratulating him on winning a trip to the Schlei. He immediately goes to see his brother-in-law, Heinz, and wants to spend the vacation with him. Josefine Jäger is also one of the winners. She wants to take her niece Johanna along to help take her mind off things. Johanna is hurt by her boyfriend Max, who keeps standing her up. Her suspicions are reinforced by an email she receives showing photos of Max with Mareike Wolf, a crime novelist. Max knows nothing about it, but Johanna believes he is having an affair. When they set off on the trip, they meet their tour guide, Lisa Wagner, who gives them a detailed briefing about the tour. Johanna does not believe the trip is as reputable as it is claimed to be and suspects it is a sales trip disguised as a vacation. Walter does not leave his car at the train station because he does not want to pay the parking fees, so he follows the bus. During the ride, Heinz gets to know Johanna and Josefine better. Shortly after arriving, many of the guests realize that the trip is not what they had expected. Instead of staying at the exclusive hotel in Bullesby, they are put up in an old inn. Lisa Wagner gives presentations about plots of land by the Schlei that the guests can buy exclusively. A boat trip further persuades them. Many guests decide to buy a plot. Walter also considers giving his wife, Inge, a somewhat bigger present for their 40th wedding anniversary, and buys a share. Max follows Johanna to Bullesby and checks into the castle hotel. Mareike Wolf also stays at the hotel, as she is currently on a book tour for her new crime novel. They meet at dinner, but Max wants nothing to do with her. Johanna learns that her boyfriend is now in Bullesby too and wants to meet him to talk things over. When she arrives outside the hotel, she sees Mareike Wolf get into Max’s car, and the two of them drive away together. She is now certain he is having an affair. Heinz reads Mareike Wolf’s book and comes across a passage that describes exactly how she got Max into the photos. Walter and Heinz drive to the castle hotel, but the homemade radio short-circuits and the car burns out completely. Still shaken, they arrive at the hotel and gain access to Mareike Wolf’s room. As expected, they find a vial of knockout drops. Heinz tastes some of its contents and promptly collapses. Walter calls Josefine for help getting Heinz out of the room. Max, who has meanwhile looked into the tour company, discovers that the company owner Lisa Wagner keeps announcing died several years ago. He therefore wants to talk to Johanna and apologize to her. But Patrick Dengler and Lisa Wagner overpower and capture them, along with Josefine. They manage to free themselves and, with Heinz and Walter’s help, apprehend the crooks. Dengler and Wagner turn out to be wanted criminals who were trying to get their hands on the gullible pensioners’ money and had swindled the innkeeper, Gustav Klatt, leaving him bankrupt.
