Il paradiso all'improvviso (2003)

Lorenzo Buccianti is a “confirmed bachelor,” as he describes himself. He devotes his life to work—he owns a company specializing in artificial weather effects—and to having fun with his mistress, Mirna, and his friends Giandomenico Bardella and Taddeo Borromini, both of whom are obsessed with betting. One day, while in Ischia on business with his employee Nina, he meets Amaranta, the woman who had contacted him. For her twenty-fifth birthday, she had planned three days of romance with her boyfriend, Guglielmo, but he fails to show up. Given their budding friendship, Lorenzo offers to accompany her on the itinerary, while Nina falls in love with Simur, Amaranta’s Indian servant. By the end of this time together, Lorenzo and Amaranta fall in love. But when they return from the trip, Lorenzo finds Bardella’s ex-wife at the villa where they live. He then discovers that Amaranta, whose real name is Anna, was nothing more than an actress hired by Bardella for a bet he had made with Taddeo: that the incorrigible bachelor would fall in love with her. The discovery plunges Lorenzo into despair, but Taddeo, genuinely sorry for his friend, manages to convince him that the single life is no longer for him. And so Lorenzo finds Anna again and marries her, fulfilling the feelings they had both come to share for each other.
